In Frederiksberg Gardens there is a large colony of the Grey Heron. They can be seen around the lake to the east side. The Grey Heron is not a rare bird in Copenhagen. It has settled in the city and finds easily food in the lakes of the parks.

Some Copenhageners enjoy feeding the herons.

Frederiksberg Gardens is one of my favorite places when I want to go for a longer walk. It is big enough for a 5 km walk if you include the section of Søndermarken on the other side of Roskildevej.

One of the best features of Frederiksberg Gardens is its location next to Copenhagen Zoo. From the southwestern corner you can have a look into the zoo and if you are lucky the elephants are outside where you can catch a glimpse of them. If not, you might enjoy the exotic sounds of tropical birds calling.

In the springtime the park is at its most beautiful. The many trees with light green leaves and in early spring the lawns are covered with hyacinths and other spring time flowers.
