The Valby Park – good thing to do if you are in Copenhagen with kids

The Valby Park is one of the biggest parks in Copenhagen. It consists of large lawns, a popular playground, lots of flower beds and trees and it faces the sea to the east. It is a perfect spot for fresh air and to take your kids to the large – and busy – playground.

This wonderful park is placed south of the center in the area called ‘Sydhavn’ or ‘Copenhagen SV’. Even if it is not located right in the city centre of Copenhagen, It is relatively easily accessible. By S-train you can reach the entrance in 10 minutes. You can catch the S-train line A towards Hundige and get off at Sjælør station. From here it is a 5-10 minute walk through the lovely and busy residential area of Sydhavn before you reach the entrance. Another option for you is to catch bus 3A runs straight to the main entrance.

Very often we have used Valbyparken as a good place for a picnic. I find that it is a perfect place to take your kids if they need some fresh air and a place to burn energy. You can sit in the grass or at a picnic table right at the large playground and enjoy a day out while the kid is playing at the playground.

The sea front is not a place for swimming as of yet. There is a nice paved path along the water with large rocks lining the water. The view is nice and worth the walk.

However, a proper beach area with dunes for you to lie in is planned for the summer of 2021 (read more about the project here – in Danish). So don’t forget to bring your sunglasses by then.
